Meet the team – Nathalie Ieong, Project Manager at TERAO Asia

Today you will learn more about Nathalie, our French-born Chinese Project Manager, a Hong Kong origin Parisian, Beijinger at heart and new Shanghainese since 2 years and half.

Let’s discover more about her through this short interview.

Q1: What is your role in TERAO and since when?

NI: I have been Project Manager in TERAO Asia, since October 2018. Before I had worked as a Project Engineer and Facility Management manager in a French energy company in Beijing before, for 7 years, for projects in cogeneration, energy audits in industry, facility management, solar PV etc.

Q2: What do you like in your role at TERAO?

NI: As a project manager facing the owners, I will manage different parties towards the goal of green building certification or energy efficiency improvement / energy audits. In this regards, organization and communication skills need to be involved, challenged and improved. It teaches me a lot about work but also about life. Also I can learn a lot about different aspect of green buildings, and I hope one day I can apply them in my own “eco” house.

As we are in a SME, I help also to write articles for the website and organize events as a CHO (Chief Happiness Officer). I am quite happy with this versatility in my role.

Q3: Why did you choose to work at TERAO?

NI: Growing up in France, I started to have a strong sense of responsibility towards the negative effect of our economic development, towards our own health and the environment in which we all live. That is how I wanted to work in sustainability.

At first, I thought renewable energies were the solutions to this issue, and then I learned through my teachers at the university that “the cleanest energy is the one we do not use”, and decided to work in energy efficiency. I decided to choose the green building field, because its share of energy consumption was huge (40% globally), so it is where you can make an impact, also, it will affect life of human beings directly occupying the building like you or myself, so I find it interesting.

After 7 years in my former company, I found that TERAO could be a perfect match for me, as it is a small-scale team, really focus on the Sustainability in Buildings, and located in China. I decided to apply to work for this company. They accepted me and here we are!

Q4: What is one of your values that is in line with TERAO Value, and why is it a value for you?

NI: One of TERAO value which I also consider as important is Commitment. This was translated towards my commitment to lower my carbon emissions or my impact on the planet, as much as I can. I cannot tell my kids (if I have them) “I knew everything, but I did nothing”. Therefore, commitment is very important to me and that is what we have in common with TERAO values.

Q5: What is one of your hobbies outside of work?

NI: One of my hobbies is eating or cooking desserts to share. Also I enjoy learning about natural farming, so I like to go to Chongming Island to help farmers doing some farm work and connect with the Earth, or to participate with them in the Slow Food Earth Market.

Q6: Favorite quote / motto?

“Do not do to others what you would not like to be done to you”

(we have at least 3 colleagues with the same quote)

Q7: A short sentence to describe you
