It is a pleasure to announce the nomination of the IKEA Panyu project to BREEAM Awards 2019.
The BREEAM Awards recognize the achievement of those involved in the specification, design, construction and management of BREEAM certified buildings.
This project, for which TERAO team dedicated 2 years of hard work, is going to be the first IKEA BREEAM Very Good Level project in China, as part of the ambition of IKEA to comply with BREEAM Green Building certification, within the IKEA Group sustainability strategy, People & Planet Positive.
Here are some characteristics of the IKEA Panyu project:
- BREEAM rating: Very Good
- Score: 63.73%
- Size: 24028 m² (Net internal floor area) and 44660 m2 (gross internal floor area)
- Stage: Design stage
- BREEAM version: International New Construction 2016
How did BREEAM influence the design ?
First, rainwater system will enable harvesting water on the roof to flush toilets, for landscaping irrigation and cleaning. This will reduce water consumption by 5,000 m3 per year.
Secondly, to increase the sustainability of the building, materials from responsible source (FSC-timber) or products with lower environmental impact were used to build this IKEA store.
Moreover, adapted to the local climate condition, the need of heating is minimized through Building Modelization and Energy simulation done by TERAO.
The fossil-fuel energy consumption is also greatly reduced through the use of energy-efficient LEDs bulbs, and the use of solar thermal panels on the roof.
Overall, these strategies will greatly reduce the building energy, water and carbon footprint.
